NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23 Review: The Guardian

The OSP's final two-parter is certainly taking the team far afield.

The squad is spread out across the globe following NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23.

International intrigue and Harmon Rabb of JAG fame.

Teaming Up with Harm - NCIS: Los Angeles

How could things possibly go wrong?

Well, they didn't, for the most part.

Field Trip - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

It's been an incredible convoluted storyline. So far.

I've got a feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better, maybe even carrying over into next season.

After all the talk about the JAG reboot/reunion, it was encouraging that Harm didn't show up until the second half, and even then he was relatively unobtrusive.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22 Review: No More Secrets

I have to admit I did enjoy hearing a few notes of that JAG theme upon Harm's introduction. It was like he'd never left, and it's been, what, 14 years?

Harm was late to the party, so he just largely stayed out of the way and took things in.

Still, it's his ship on which ISIS sympathizers/killers are hiding out, so I expect he'll be assuming a more active role in the finale. Hell, he knows how to investigate so that he could fill in for the dead NCIS agent.

Different Role - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

Maybe there's even a way to work in some foolhardy jet flying. I mean, Harm's on an aircraft carrier now, so that might make some sense.

Was anyone surprised that Callen was back to work already, other than his teammates?

Haven't most of them worked with him for a decade, and don't they know he would deal with grief by throwing himself into his work?

That's nothing new.

He was desperate for a distraction, and the burnt, mutilated body of a former Marine cryptologist certainly fit that bill. Even if he had to drag along Eric, who apparently craved the fresh air of field work.

At least until Eric got confronted with the corpse of Ellie Simms, which caused him to debate man's inhumanity to his fellow man.

Back on the Job - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

Maybe that's a good thing, because it would be too easy for the field agents who witness such things regularly to become inured to such tragedies.

Anyway, it was timely that Eric got out then because he was trapped in Ops for the rest of the episode.

That was partly because he had to coordinate teams in the Middle East and L.A. and partly because Nell got called away again because of her mother's medical condition.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 22

It was amazing that Sydney is such an annoying character that she even could irritate Nell, and viewers, by phone. She couldn't relay medical information which she had gotten.

How is it a government intelligence agency employs her? Or did they wise up and she isn't any longer?

So, because of Sydney's ineptitude, Nell had to leave in the middle of a crisis.

Domestic Duo - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

Whatever his shortcomings as a field agent, Eric can certainly handle himself in Ops, even when he has to hold down the fort by himself.

I still have to wonder what the deal is with Eric and especially Nell, who keeps getting pulled away. Are one or both characters getting written out?

Eric is tolerable, in managed doses, but could get replaced. Deeks is still there for comic relief.

But Nell would be a major loss. I keep thinking that if, as it seems, Hetty is done, Nell could move up the administrative ladder. She's also an asset in the field, unlike Eric.

Hopefully in the finale we'll find out in there's anything to all their recent waffling about moving to the Bay Area.

It was encouraging the powers that be once again refused to take the easy way out and use Islamic jihadists as their villain.

Chasing a Suspect - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

It looked that way when news of the texts from ISIS in Syria to L.A. popped up.

It took Deeks to point out the fallacies in their investigative direction.

Viewers got a much-needed reminder that Deeks is more than a pretty face with lustrous locks.

The brilliant barrister inside Deeks made a rare appearance as he systematically demolished the concept that a ragtag bunch of ISIS sympathizers stood any chance of destroying a secure military target, and instead suggested that espionage was the goal.

NCIS: Los Angeles Spoiler Photos

Kensi stood there slackjawed, dumbfounded that Deeks was making salient points.

Around this same time, Eric discovered a call from Baird's wife Olivia to Volkoff, the Russian intelligence chief, from before his death in Havana on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22.

Really? We're supposed to accept that a deep sleeper agent called her boss from her personal cell phone? I think not.

Duly Impressed - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

That did result in a lot of suspicious information activity about both Bairds which, frankly, led nowhere, at least not yet. But he's blown up and she's missing, so that couple is pretty much a dead end.

So precious little got solved. An ISIS sympathizer likely blew up Baird. That's about it.

Simms's killer is unidentified. On board the Allegiance, the killers/ISIS sympathizers are likewise unknown.

Then there's the whole question of what's being planned by the Russians.

Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie from "JAG" returns in the finale. By the glimpse of her in the trailer, it appears she's moved to the private sector.

I'm not sure how you can do a reboot with him at sea and her back in the states, but by next weekend, JAG could already be announced for next season's CBS schedule.

The best news is that Hetty was also in the trailer, so hopefully she is back for the finale as well.

What had changed for Harmon "Harm" Rabb Jr. since viewers last saw him?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23, the former JAG character popped up when Callen and Sam made their way to the Persian Gulf to meet the character.

The purpose of the mission was to find the location of ISIS sympathizers who were targeting military locations.

However, the mission proved to be a tough one because one of the people involve was linked to a member of the team.

This Does Not Look Good... - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23

Meanwhile, Hetty realized that her old friend Mac could help her out with another mission.

How did it all play out?

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24 Review: False Flag

$

Give the powers that be on NCIS: Los Angeles credit. They know how to set up a cliffhanger.

The world ended up on the brink of World War III on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24.

It's hard to generate much more suspense than that.

Locating ISIS - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

Most everyone in the regular cast and a handful of the guest stars were in various kinds of peril: Sam, Callen, Kensi, Deeks, Harm, Sabatino, a SEAL Sam volunteered for a special mission, Nell's unseen mother and, well, the entire company of the USS Allegiance.

Hetty, Nell, Eric and Mac were safe, best I could tell.

That Harm Smile - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

The best part of all was that, despite the trumpeted return of JAG's Harm and Mac, the two-part season finale belonged to the actual cast of NCIS: Los Angeles.

If that was a backdoor pilot, it was the most understated I've ever seen.

More on the concept of a JAG reboot later.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23 Review: The Guardian

It was a twisty, turny storyline, with both Russians and ISIS thought to be the foe.

The Russians were "victims" by default, as the Chechen Muslims its intelligence service had seeded throughout the U.S. military turned on them and enlisted with ISIS instead.

It's so hard to find a traitor you can trust.

A Group Shot - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

But it took a good long while for all that to get figured out.

Sam and Callen had the unenviable task of locating two Chechen agents among the thousands of sailors on the Allegiance.

Fortunately, they had help back in Ops.

First was Eric, who was sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, and distracted, since Nell was off in San Francisco tending to her deteriorating mother and he'd had no time to check in with her.

Fortunately for him, Hetty popped up (electronically) to give him an update. Even better, she found him some help in Ops.

That help came from Jasmine Garcia, who helped out Sam and Callen on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8 Episode 3.

Worlds Collide - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

Jasmine was fun. She immediately set off Eric's territorial tendencies when she largely took over, but as she explained, there was too much at stake for her to be pussyfooting around him.

She's stationed at that NCIS farm team in San Diego, as are Fatima and Dechamps, and others I can't recall through the years.

Hey, maybe that would be a worthwhile backdoor pilot: NCIS Newbies. Pick one of the many Hetty substitutes to run it (whoever's pilot failed to launch).

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles: Season 10 Episode 23

I'd watch it.

Anyway, Jasmine's special program uncovered the next sleeper agent, Davis who gave Sam and Callen someone to interrogate.

It took a while before that lead paid off, until after another sleeper agent was killed in his sleep.

Hetty Asks Mac For Help - NCIS: Los Angeles

Then Davis blurted the other big twist -- that he had signed a deal with a CIA agent, then told the late NCIS Agent Lee about it.

Of course, the CIA agent Davis reached with an agreement with was fictitious, and instead was our old friend Sabatino. Don't you love it when intelligence agencies are tripping over each other because of secrecy?

The Allegiance was one front in this storyline, with Sam and Callen stuck spinning their wheels, waiting on information.

More enjoyable was that never-before-seen pairing of Mac and Hetty.

Apparently they were old friends. Hetty truly does know everybody, doesn't she?

They did an admirable job of working around Yashnikov's immunity.

It's Me! - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

Unfortunately, Hetty's reputation and subtle intimidation only worked so much. He admittted, yes, the Russians had an operation but it got away from them. Where it's going now, who knows?

If he could have kept it in his pants, they would have had nothing to exploit.

As it was, one compromising photo and Mac had all she needed to force Yashnikov's cooperation. Blackmail is so much easier in this age of social media.

NCIS: Los Angeles Spoiler Photos

We did finally get the answer of what happened to Harm and Mac. He went back to see, she went to the State Department and their marriage fell apart.

And wasn't their video reunion some awkward?

So the investigation became a game of internet whack-a-mole, with Olivia confirming contact and Harm tracking a terminal aboard the carrier.

Preventing World War III - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

Too bad they didn't even begin to know how many sleeper agents were on board the Allegiance. At least three too many, as that's the number that took over the damage-control center at the end.

I'm a little fuzzy at what exactly that center is used for, but anything that has the word "control" in the title you don't want in the hands of terrorists.

Finally, Kensi and Deeks got redirected to determine what the hell Sabatino was up to. His mission of "preventing World War III" was a little of the vague side.

Apparently, he had important intelligence to keep Israel and Saudi Arabia from retaliating after missiles rained down on them from Iran.

That's good, since those two countries aren't known for their restraint. They have all those American weapons to try out.

Unfortunately, Sabatino's base of operations wasn't the top-secret location it needed to be, and before long, the small American contingent was under siege.

Not Amused - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24

I fear for that senior SEAL who Sam had volunteered to help Kensi and Deeks. He isn't long from an heroic death.

So let's see what questions need addressing:

  • Who killed Agent Lee?
  • Can Sam, Callen and Harm regain control of the Allegiance?
  • Can the CIA base be saved?
  • Will Nell's mother live?

I have some non-narrative questions as well.

Are Eric and Nell gone? With the introduction of Fatima and the reintroduction of Jasmine, I really have to wonder.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Granted, Alyssa Diaz (Jasmine) is a regular on The Rookie. But a role of a long-running series nearing its end has to trump a role on a series unlikely to become long running. The concept of The Rookie argues against that happening.

What would a JAG reboot look like? Mac in charge, Harm her number two and some fresh young faces filling out the cast. The last time we saw Bud on NCIS, he didn't qualify any longer.

But most of those answers are going to have to wait until September.

To re-savor Season 10, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.

You don't have to be an old married couple to act like one.

Some relationships on television play the part up for laughs, and with others it just comes naturally.

We've created a slideshow below of 27 young old married couples!

1. Damon and Bonnie - The Vampire Diaries

We're still Team Bamon for life. Damon and Bonnie bickered constantly, but at the end of the day, they loved each other and were best friends. And we can't forget that when they were stuck in another dimension they read the newspaper and did crossword puzzles together. Can you get any more domestic?

2. Raj and Howard - The Big Bang Theory

Raj and howard the big bang theory
Raj and Howard acting like an old married couple is a running gag on The Big Bang Theory. If we're being honest, we're surprised they ended up marrying other people instead of each other.

3. Mac and Dennis - It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia

Sometimes we forget that Mac and Dennis are roommates and not husbands who live together. They've even been called out by other characters for acting like an old married couple in the past.

4. Joey and Chandler - Friends

At the end of the day, Joey and Chandler will always be each other's true love. They lived together and even had two kids: a chick and a duck. You can't get much more married than that.

5. Michael and Maria - Roswell, New Mexico

Michael and Maria act like they've known each other for a century. When they're not bickering and acting like they want to rip each other's heads off, they're kissing and being the softest people on the planet. Somehow, it's an adorable mix.

6. Winston and Schmidt - New Girl

Fanatic Feed: Arrow Loses Another Series Regular, NCIS: LA Vet's Temporary Absence, and More!

Here is a wrap up of all the news you need to know from Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Fresh off the news that Arrow is bringing back a lot of stars for its eighth and final season, it has been revealed that another actor is exiting as a series regular.

According to Green Arrow TV, Colton Haynes is out of the CW drama, but showrunner, Beth Schwartz told the outlet that "we hope to have him back."

Roy Arrow

The news did not go down well with fans of the show, primarily because there was some confusion about whether Haynes was the one who made the decision.

However, the actor took to Twitter on Thursday to set the record straight.

"Getting a lot of angry messages so just to clarify...I didn’t exit the last season of Arrow. I was not asked to come back for the final season as a series regular," he said.

But there was a silver lining:

"But y’all know Roy...he’s never gone for too long 🤗🤗🤗," he concluded his tweet.

Hungry For Blood - Arrow Season 7 Episode 22

Given that Arrow Season 8 will span just ten episodes, it would be great to have Haynes back as Roy for at least one of them, if only to conclude his story.

Haynes joins Emily Bett Rickards and Echo Kellum as the Arrow stars not returning as regulars for the truncated final season, which gets underway October 15.

Over in the land of NCIS: LA, TV Line has confirmed that Barrett Foa is taking a leave of absence from the CBS drama's eleventh season.

He will be gone from five out of the season's first six episodes.

Lost in Ops - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

As for how the show will address the temporary exit on-screen, the outlet reports that Eric's whereabouts will all be part of the storyline for the season.

The reason for the exit is to allow Foa to take on another professional opportunity.

Meanwhile, ABC's A Million Little Things is growing for its second season. The first season spanned 17 episodes, and the second will go for 19 episodes.

TV Line first reported the news via an interview with series creator DJ Nash. Nash tells the website that ABC was lobbying for a 22 episode season, but that he pushed back on it.

Man of Mystery - Tall - A Million Little Things Season 1 Episode 17

It's certainly a good move to have fewer episodes in this day and age!

Over in the world of Yellowstone, the Season 3 cast continues to expand.

Per Deadline, the latest additions to the cast are Q’orianka Kilcher and Jennifer Landon. The two have been added as recurring to the expansive cast of Paramount's hit drama series.

According to the website, Kilcher is set to appear as a character named Angela Blue Thunder, Native American and political opponent of Tom Rainwater.

Landon is playing a new wrangler on the Yellowstone ranch.

Q'orianka Kilcher Poses for a Photo

Kilcher is probably best known for her role on TNT's The Alienist, while Landon is best known for Animal Kingdom.

Yellowstone Season 3 has yet to get a premiere date at Paramount, but given that the second season is still airing, the cabler will probably announce a premiere date after that is over.

Finally, NBC is extending a vote of faith to one of its new fall dramas.

THR is reporting that Bluff City Law has scored an order for an additional six scripts ahead of its premiere.

Bluff City Law - NBC

While this does not guarantee more episodes will be ordered, it does show the Peacock network thinks the show is going to be a success.

"Coming from a famous Memphis family known for taking on injustice, brilliant lawyer Sydney Strait used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way," reads the official logline.

"After barely speaking to him for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly."

"In the wake of her loss, hoping to reconnect with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his firm."

Bluff City Law Duo

"She agrees because despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world … if they can ever get along."

The cast includes Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1 Review: Let Fate Decide

It was a Middle Eastern version of Whack-a-Mole.

That's because the OSP team, along with Harm and Mac, needed to deal with the fallout from the ISIS false-flag missile attacks on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1.

First off, Hetty was back in all her glory, and the long darkness has lifted after the better part of two seasons.

Hetty and Mac - NCIS: Los Angeles

No more wondering who's in charge in a given episode. It's Hetty's world and we're all just living in it.

She just elevates any scene she's in with her connections and her been-there, done-that cool.

Back in Charge - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

It was evident that everybody's knows her name. And she can pull together a swinging party anywhere on Earth.

The action just picked up from the cliffhanger on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24, which meant that the agents were scattered about the Middle East trying to stop ISIS.

The episode offered an enjoyable setup as agents were teamed up with other recurring characters and sent out on separate missions.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24 Review

The biggest culture clash came during the search for proof of the false-flag attack in possession of Vuvivier and Pliyev.

Sabatino and Wallace quickly discovered what an acquired taste Deeks and his rambling monologues are.

Making New Friends - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

As usual, Deeks went on and on about his surroundings, fearing the local wildlife despite the fact it was ISIS fighters who kept firing on them.

Yet, out of respect for Kensi, they tolerated him and his jibber-jabber.

Still, the quartet was effective together, as they kept running into ISIS units while being a step behind Duvivier and Pliyev until it was almost too late.

It was clever how they rigged up the machine guns to automatically fire; then they blew up the bunker once most of the ISIS reinforcements had been drawn inside.

Sabatino's sarcasm is always welcomed, and the SEAL Wallace was a strong addition as well.

The standoff on the Allegiance got resolved rather quickly, and the captured ISIS convert Skinner offered little of value other than being an object lesson.

On Land - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

It was good that Harm was allowed to leave his post on the Allegiance and head off to help out Sam and Callen.

Otherwise, how would we have gotten the long-anticipated reunion with Mac as the NCIS agents scooted away to give them privacy?

They didn't stay together long as everyone went off in different directions to avert a crisis.

Pairing Callen and Harm worked well, with Harm interrogating Callen about his relationship with Elianna, one of his exes.

It was obvious there was still some spark between Callen and Elianna, which is good, since she'll return in NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2.

At least she and Harm enjoyed a good laugh at Callen's expense.

Naturally, there had to be a gratuitous brawl with the bodyguards of an Israeli wiseguy Elianna was bringing them to see.

Sam and Fatima in Tehran made for an exceptional pairing.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 24 Online

Sam was able to smoothly analyze Fatima's comfort at being in a place where she was surrounded by other Muslims.

Being Muslim himself, Sam was able to relate to how she felt.

But being in a society where women have fewer rights surely would have grated on her sooner rather than later.

In The Big Leagues - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

Fatima was able to connect with Laleh, the saleswoman about disconnection with family members.

It was amusing to watch Fatima impertinently grill TV royalty Mac about her relationship with Harm.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Fatima this season.

It seemed she was destined for Ops if either Eric or Nell didn't return. But Mac noted Fatima, based in San Diego, had applied for a post in Washington.

Hetty Face - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

Too bad, as Fatima would have supplied some much-needed new blood.

And since Alyssa Diaz, who played Jasmine, subbing for Eric and Nell, is still among the cast of The Rookie, it seems likely that the Meerkats will be back in Ops sooner rather than later this season.

Hetty and Mac had the easiest assignment, meeting with Prince Kamal, who Hetty's squad had saved on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 3.

Kamal would have done anything for Hetty, but even he needed more proof than her say-so.

Friendly Meeting - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

Fortunately, after that misstep with the truffle hunters, Kensi and Company were able to deliver that proof just in time.

The party scene was a nice capper, with Hetty a contented matriarch while watching the tableaux play out in front of her.

As she talked with Sam and Callen, it was clear she was happy to be back on the throne.

It's intriguing to see what's keeping Sam and Callen in Tel Aviv next episode.

Diplomatic Crisis - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

The episode offered no closure, or promise when it came to Harm and Mac.

Mac hinted at something more in her short talk with Harm. Harm mentioned something about an NCIS post in San Diego, although he didn't seem very interested.

CBS did everything in its power to ensure its military-legal drama The Code was DOA. So there's certainly a genre opening for a JAG reboot.

But whatever would be its premise, with both the lead characters seemingly content with their lives as they are?

Which pairing did you like best?

Do you enjoy when the team is split up and goes on separate missions?

Did Kensi and Deeks survive?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1 the pair were still trapped in a mobile CIA unit in Iraq while under attack by ISIS.

They fought to survive, but realized there was more to them being taken than they first thought.

Meanwhile, Callen and Sam worked with Navy Capt. Harmon Rabb Jr. to apprehend spies aboard the USS Allegiance.

What did they find out about it?

17 Endgame 'Ships We Love With Endings We Hate

Don't you hate when your favorite couple has an unsatisfying ending?

Sometimes a couple gets together by the end of a show, but we expected more given the effort it took them to get there.

Related: 31 Couples Who Inspired Each Other's Inner Comedian

Talk of divorce, memory loss, and half-assed weddings weren't things that left us with the warm and fuzzies when some series came to a close.

We created a slideshow below of 17 endgame 'ships we love -- with endings that we hate.

1. Stiles and Lydia - Teen Wolf

Stiles and lydia teen wolf
For six agonizing seasons, fans waited for Stiles and Lydia to finally admit their feelings for each other. Once they finally got together, Dylan O'Brien left the show and returned only for the series finale. Their kiss wasn't as satisfying as it could have been, and viewers didn't get to experience them as a real couple.

2. Mac and Harm - JAG/NCIS: Los Angeles

Mac and harm jag slash ncis los angeles
The entire series of JAG was one big will they/won’t they for these two with plenty of ship teases that didn't go anywhere. Mac and Harm finally got together and ended up married in the series finale, only to bring them back in NCIS: Los Angeles for fans to discover that their marriage was over. It was teased that they might be reunited in the future, but after all this time, why bother?

3. Kurt and Blaine - Glee

Kurt and blaine glee
Kurt and Blaine were an iconic couple who was very easy to love. However, when it was revealed that Blaine cheated on Kurt, it changed everything. The two did end up getting married, but the relationship felt tainted after Blaine's infidelity.

4. Doug and Carrie - King of Queens

Doug and carrie king of queens
King of Queens was a comedy about Doug and Carrie's married life. They decided to get a divorce right before they're notified that they could adopt a baby from Beijing. Doug and Carrie wound up racing each other to China to claim their child, but eventually realized they were being stupid. They remained married and even had another baby together, but there was way too much unnecessary drama.

5. Chloe and Alek - The Nine Lives of Chloe King

Chloe and alek the nine lives of chloe king
When The Nine Lives of Chloe King got canceled, Chloe was torn between Brian and Alek. The writers wrote a movie script to serve as an end to the series, but the network decided not to produce it. The script was posted online to give fans a sense of closure, and Chloe realized she was in love with Alek. The only problem is that we never got to see their beautiful ending.

6. Jace and Clary - Shadowhunters

Jace and clary shadowhunters
In the series finale, Clary lost all her memories of the Shadow World, which included falling in love with Jace. It was implied in the show's final moments that Jace and Clary would wind up together again, but it was too open-ended for our liking.

Things were getting closer to back to normal.

The OSP team largely returned to the spotlight on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2.

I say largely because, well, a little under half the team was still missing in action.

Working With DOJ - NCIS: Los Angeles

Still, that beats being the supporting players in an attempted JAG reboot on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1.

So, progress of a sort.

On the Hunt - NCIS: Los Angeles

Hetty was there in spirit only, haunting the place. Hopefully, this will be the exception, not the rule, unlike last season.

Eric was still off in San Francisco "consulting" for an unspecified time, but Nell was back, so that's a win.

Deeks got recalled to LAPD for some mandatory policy updates, which freed Kensi from having to make excuses for him.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1 Review: Let Fate Decide

You know, after that early Densi scene, the episode was quiet, despite all the gunfire.

So we got our first partner-switching episode of the season.

There's nothing wrong with those. After a decade, it doesn't hurt to shake up things for an episode or two.

Seeking Clues - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Just don't bring in a know-it-all outsider to take charge. That got old quickly.

Now that Anna is persona non grata, Callen needed a new potential love interest.

That meant that Callen got temporarily reassigned to work with a former lover from his fuzzy past, which becomes more and more documented each season.

By now, you know the type: an exotic bad girl, with a slight accent, who is an action figure.

Yes, initially it seemed that Joelle was the exception to that stereotype, but she did end up fitting most of those criteria.

Mysterious Figure - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Eliana Sapir was a Mossad agent who just disappeared from a bar in Rome, leaving Callen to mend his broken heart.

They spent much of their lengthy stakeout time discussing what went wrong with them.

Here's a hint: They both have dangerous jobs which are more important to them than any relationship.

See. One sentence, that didn't take 20 minutes to write. But that would have robbed them of the chance to subtly emote.

I'm betting Sam was content to hang out in that sweatbox of an apartment rather than being stuck in that van with the two of them and their emotional baggage.

Another Day, Another Firefight - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Instead, Sam had to track down and interrogate a washed-up Samoan football player who had gotten mixed up with a drug gang in Israel.

Yeah, I could see why Sam would try to figure out Sapolo's sad story which had landed him in Tel Aviv.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 11 Episode 1

Sam had to do all the heavy lifting while the other two sifted through their past. Without his intel, they had no idea where to raid.

Sam went with the good cop-homemade sandwich approach, bonding with Sapolo, whose dreams of gridiron glory also flamed out with a serious injury.

After a short while, Sam got Sapolo to tell him where Ladd's drug stash house was located, which wasn't where Eliana and Callen were then staked out.

Beginning Again? - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Then he promised to put in a good word for Sapolo, maybe even getting him back to the States.

Frankly, Eliana and Callen's takedown of the drug warehouse was painfully easy. A handful of shots and they were driving away the truck loaded with drugs. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but no.

But does it truly matter if Ladd got busted in the end? It was all about introducing Eliana to viewers and hinting that the spark between them still exists, and she may be back sooner rather than later.

I don't know how a match between Callen and a woman, seemingly even more alpha than him, would work. But it seems we're destined to find out.

Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, Kensi got a respite during Deeks' forced return to LAPD.

Welcome Break - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Kensi spoke for many viewers when, after Deeks joked, "Are you afraid I'll come back with a haircut and shave?" she replied, "A girl can dream."

In the meantime, she got to work with a partner that let her get a word in edgewise.

Lance and Sam work well together because Lance is essentially a supersized version of Sam, with very similar backstories. They get each other.

Still, Kensi and Lance quickly synced because they were both professionals who followed the code, "Shoot first, ask questions later."

Granted, this strategy shortly led to a lack of suspects, with all the former bodyguards and their shooter dead.

On the Attack - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

But, after spitballing together, Kensi and Lance determined that Karen, Dotson's innocent-seeming girlfriend, was the arms dealer, eliminating potential competition.

Again, they made quick work of their targets, although Karen was quite feisty for somebody who required four bodyguards.

It was great to Nell back in Ops. Her mother's condition had improved, but she still faced a gradual recovery, so it won't be surprising to see Nell disappear again for an episode or two.

Barrett Foa is scheduled to miss five of the first six episodes while on a leave of absence to perform in a production of Angels in America.

Eric's storyline is that Hetty has sent him off on a special mission, which is bound to impact the team down the road.

Under Protection - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2

Whether this means Nell handling Ops herself or Fatima or Jasmine assisting, it will be interesting to see. I vote for the latter. Fresh blood never hurts.

Next episode featuring Admiral Kilbride promises to have everyone back together in the same city on the same case, which is welcome in my book.

Did splitting up actually work?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2, the team was faced with multiple cases worldwide.

Hetty Face - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1

To help be more efficient, Callen suggested that everyone split up to crack the cases.

Callen then made his way to Tel Aviv to work with Eliana Sapir in a case that pushed them to the brink.

Kensi worked with DOJ Agent Lance Hamilton in Los Angeles.

However, nobody realized that there was a link between all of the cases.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3 Review: Hail Mary

That's more like it.

Most of the gang was there for NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3.

It was the traditional setup, with teams of Sam and Callen, Kensi and Deeks, and Eric and Nell all present.

Navy Admiral Kilbride - NCIS: Los Angeles

Hetty's only appearance was by phone, but Admiral Kilbride was there to provide the war stories, over and over again.

Not that Kilbride isn't a crotchety old bastard. Gerald McRaney is making a career of those kinds of roles lately and he does them oh so well.

Message from Ops - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

Kilbride makes the term snowflake sound like the insult it's meant to be. He's not the kind mentor that Hetty is, but he makes that abrasive style work for him.

This was certainly a Kilbride-type of operation, running on minimal intel and lots of bravado.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 2 Review: Decoy

I didn't see how his keeping his people in the dark was a good idea, especially since Eric and Nell were able to piece things together anyhow.

But after some of the shit he's seen during his career, any setbacks would seem to be minor ones.

The whole concept of focusing on stealing intellectual property was a timely one.

Man of Mystery - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

Rather than stealing a closely guarded weapon, why not just abduct a person who knows how to build said weapon and has much less security around him or her?

This begs the question of why someone such as Jess Adams isn't better protected. Is the idea that their research is so hush-hush that foreign operatives or arms dealers wouldn't be aware of it?

It was a mystery how Kilbride so quickly got a line on the sale of Adams and was able to intercept one potential buyer in Conklin along with his bag of bearer bonds.

Conklin hardly came off as a scary arms dealer. Of course, being stripped to his underwear and trussed up would tend to dissipate any such aura.

Knowing very little about the man they were monitoring, Kensi and Deeks were wrong not to keep Conklin's gag off so they could learn more about what he had been planning.

Making Plans - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

Instead, they were surprised by those thugs sent to Conklin's room, apparently to kill him. They really should have believed him when he said trouble was coming.

You can never go wrong with the old dive-into-the-pool-from-a-balcony manuever.

Conklin did prove to be a whiny little girl after that, although frankly Kensi and Deeks had little leverage on over him.

Could he be charged with carrying a big bag of money around? Frankly, that was about all they could prove he had done. It's not a crime to ask to be robbed.

In fact, beyond his identity and the money, Conklin contributed very little to this episode. Even dead Adnan had more value.

In the Dark - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

No wonder Conklin was left alone to stew in the interrogation room.

No, the fun part was watching McRaney chew the scenery as Kilbride, the stereotypical "you-kids-get-off-my-lawn" old man.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 11 Episode 2

Although don't we all have some of that attitude when it comes to understanding the actions of those younger than ourselves?

Kilbride's decision to impersonate Conklin, with Sam and Callen as his bodyguards, definitely left them all exposed when they lost their guns and phones.

It was a treat to listen to Kilbride savage Adnan, supposedly the brains of the operation, who seemed more concerned with playing his games than conducting business.

Often at Odds - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

Adnan was right to wonder how Kilbride gets away with all the crap he was spouting.

But Kilbride was a master of getting his opponent off balance, which was exactly what he was doing with Adnan.

When he seemed to be capitulating, Kilbride was just setting up Adnan for the takedown, and Sam and Callen wisely backed his play. Fortunately, Deeks and Kensi were there to provide much-needed backup to cover the abduction of Adnan.

I question the wisdom of leaving all that money behind. Where was the incentive to release Jess then?

That's why they had to try to exchange the only thing of value they had -- Adnan -- for her instead.

Getting Checked Out - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

It was a great plan until, of course, Adnan dropped dead. Maybe it was vaping.

Why wasn't someone monitoring interrogation from Ops? They should have known better than to have expected Conklin to do the right thing and call for help.

I loved Kilbride's idea of wiring up Adnan's corpse as part of the exchange. Any scheme that referencing Weekend at Bernie's is bound to be a winner.

The exchange fell apart when Vihaan couldn't get a response from the dead Adnan. So instead it was a quick and easy firefight that brought things to a close.

Scanning for Trouble - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3

Didn't both Adnan's abduction and Jess's final rescue seem too easy? But then this was supposed to be one of those straightforward episodes where the smart cops outwit the dumb crooks.

It also provided some much-needed humor after the more serious tones of the season's first two episodes. No terrorists, no drug runners, just some crooks looking for a payday.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Then at the end was something they all agreed on: a drink at Deeks' bar. That's when you know you've arrived: when you get invited to celebrate at Deeks'.

Based on the final scene of next week's trailer, it appears that Hetty will be returning for duty. But since Eric is only scheduled to appear once in the first six episodes, he'll likely be the missing one next time.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4 Review: Yellow Jack

Since the first letter in the show's title stands for "Naval," it's only appropriate that this episode was filled with red herrings.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4 seemed like an effort to clean up a barely dangling storyline.

Callen and Sam found themselves back on board the USS Allegiance, under the guise of accompanying Ehsan Navid, last seen on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 5 Episode 14 and expected never to be seen again.

Ebola Exposure -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

But no, Ehsan has repaid Callen and Sam's earlier kindness by becoming an NCIS agent. He was now appointed as the agent afloat for the Allegiance, replacing Brian Lee, killed on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 23.

Callen and Sam came along to help Ehsan with the transition to his new post.

Settling In - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

Of course, nothing is ever that simple.

Harmon Rabb of JAG fame, the Allegiance's X-O, wasn't around because, well, that ship has sailed.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3 Review: Hail Mary

Nah, not really. He was testifying to a Congressional panel, likely because he drew the short straw, about the ISIS infiltration of the ship somewhat resolved on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 1.

(Where's that JAG reboot? Still in dry dock, I'd guess.)

It's been a few episodes without a jihadist threat. And the last episode on the Allegiance left the question of further ISIS collaborators hanging.

Inspecting the Scene - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

So why stretch too hard for an original idea? Why not just go back there already? I mean, the set was available.

I know. It made sense from a production standpoint. Yada, yadda.

At least the narrative took a hard turn back to Los Angeles.

At the heart of the episode was a junior officer from the Allegiance who became infected with Ebola.

This led quite handily to a two-front episode, with Sam, Callen, and Ehsan on the quarantined Allegiance while Kensi and Deeks and Nell and Fatima in Ops attempted to locate the officer's killers before more people become infected.

Ebola Quarantine - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

It was good to see Fatima back in Ops. Hopefully, this will remain the pattern until Eric returns, with other recurring Ops characters helping out Nell. She shouldn't have to shoulder the burden all by herself, what with her running back and forth to San Francisco.

Plus it came in handy having someone who could speak Farsi when a recalcitrant Iranian source needed a tongue-lashing.

Yeah, it would be good to have Fatima there on a more regular basis so the three of them could rotate and get in some field time.

Of course, none of that happens until Eric returns after a couple of more episodes. Hopefully, his return will be heralded when that happens, unlike on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 3 (an episode that was in the can already).

Anyway, it soon becomes apparent that a public health emergency could be in the offing in both locations, hence the ship's quarantine.

Scene of the Crime - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

The CDC couldn't just shut down Los Angeles that easily nor even mention Ebola above a whisper.

Instead, finding the extremists who had hoped to use the infected officer as a weapon became the priority because with her dead, their plot took a real detour.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 11 Episode 3

Credit needs to go to the officer who foiled their plan up until her dying breath.

Yeah, it was stupid of the kidnapper "Jenny" to use the officer's credit card to buy a bus ticket out of town.

That made her an easy target for Deeks and Kensi, with crazy Deeks frightening her right into Kensi's taser.

New Intel - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

"Jenny" was too much of a zealot to give away her partner, but she did inadvertently reveal the target so that Deeks and Kensi could stop her partner before he hurt anybody.

It was obvious pretty early that something was bothering Kensi.

Deeks determined it wasn't something he had done when gungho Kensi refused to follow the blood trail into the warehouse without hazmat suits.

She did fess up to being late and maybe pregnant, which was why she was uncharacteristically not taking any chances.

One clear thing was that a pregnant Kensi would have to relearn how to do her job.

Suited Up - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

Deeks did the right thing by not piling on her since he knew that they disagreed about having children.

It was a false alarm, but it did reveal how insecure Deeks is. He knows he's lucky to be with Kensi, and he keeps expecting that not to last. Maybe she reassured him but probably not.

Things weren't adding up aboard the Allegiance.

Lamb, who had given Ehsan so much attitude, wasn't the sympathizer they had feared but rather someone who had mistakenly befriended one of the ISIS infiltrators.

It seemed like he finally got past blaming all Muslims by the end.

New Agent Afloat - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4

While a handful of people manifested symptoms that could be Ebola, the L.A. investigators were able to confirm that the officer got infected after leaving the ship.

Having Ebola get onto the ship through an infected officer made sense. People contracting psychosomatic conditions was less believable and a bit disappointing.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

That being said, the Ebola threat was real enough. Having Col. Kaufman explain the effects of the disease in the Congo was heartbreaking.

It was sad that Kaufman did everything right so that she could see her new granddaughter, but because she put duty first, she was still going to have to wait weeks to see her.

It also appeared that Kensi might be softening on the idea of having children as she looked at photos of Kaufman's granddaughter.

Did Sam and Callen survive another deadly ordeal?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4, the pair were trapped aboard the USS Allegiance.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5 Review: Provenance

$

Oftentimes, the OSP members find themselves solving cases with global implications.

Occasionally, such as on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5, they face less threatening challenges.

But having a case with a healthy dose of fun is just fine.

Searching for a Painting -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

At the heart of this case was a painting that looked like it had been drawn by a kindergartener.

But then, it just may be that i just don't get art.

The Cube - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

Which is OK, since that was the premise of this case, one of many when squad members get thrust into worlds that they just don't understand.

And hilarity ensues.

When laughter reigns supreme, you can bet that Deeks will be in the middle of it.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 4 Review: Yellow Jack

It's his raison d'etre, especially with Eric still MIA.

So Deeks was the butt of everyone's jokes this time, not just Kensi's. This included his former LAPD coworkers, the insurance broker, even the Saudi woman beating the crap out of him near the end

Everyone's a Critic - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

Yet he still found time to reassure Kensi when she got thrust into that fashion monstrosity for her undercover assignment, which was sweet. It was a welcome reversal of their usual roles.

We also got to see smart lawyer Deeks when he and Kensi staged a rapid-fire interrogation of the Garcias, small fish who got caught up in something much bigger than them.

This episode worked well because the team, like most viewers, are strangers to the world of high-end art.

As Katherine wisely pointed out, it's hard to find clues when you don't know for what you're looking.

Likewise, it's hard to get any traction if you don't speak the language and you don't know the players.

Getting a Text - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

It did seem like a bit of a stretch from the get-go that a $40 million painting was about to fall into the hands of people willing to sell it to fund international terrorism.

So no wonder other investigators failed to welcome the team's assistance. Why now seemed to be the prevailing viewpoint.

Sam and Callen's claim of a threat to national security got the LAPD art-theft unit to step aside grudgingly.

But the insurance investigator, Katherine Casillas, was in her element and she knew Sam and Callen were not.

The breezy banter among the trio, in the beginning, set the ground rules. But Sam and Callen's doggedness made clear to Katherine that they weren't going anywhere.

High-End Foil - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

So she decided to simultaneously channel them and educate them in the world of art.

She was 100 percent correct that Kensi was the only one who could pass in that world, once she was properly garbed in an outfit most women wouldn't wear and couldn't pull off.

But Kensi is a woman of many hidden talents. Not only did she look fabulous wearing that monstrosity but she bullshitted the gallery owner with only a little prompting from Katherine.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 11 Episode 4

Then Sam served as the stand-in for the viewing audience as Katherine explained the many ways in which art was valuable.

Sam got it to a degree but her talk would have been wasted on Callen, who is more concerned with function over style. Ditto Deeks and Kensi, I fear.

Complicated Scenario - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

Nell had to have some contacts in the art world because how else could she be getting the tips she passed along, most of which were spot on.

The episode explored the seedy underside of the art world with people such as the Garcias laundering money from illicit activities by buying something smallish to hang on the wall.

It meant so much to them that they had no idea to whom they ultimately sold it.

Likewise Christina the auctioneer somehow lost track of a $40 million painting, which ended up getting her attacked by an unhappy potential buyer.

And why did a Saudi family looking to translate the painting into weapons of mass destruction decide to gather in the ballroom of a fancy hotel without turning off their phones so they couldn't be tracked?

Unwanted Men - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

Why not rent a nice, quiet, Airbnb someplace secluded?

And where did they expect to flee after they were found out?

Like I said, lots of dumb to go around. That's probably why this one wrapped up as smoothly as it did.

Nell stood out in this episode, as she had to bring the squad up to speed on a topic -- art -- which they just didn't get.

That fact that they all laughed at "The Cube" (who didn't) was proof enough that she had her work cut out for her explaining the underpinnings of this case.

On the Hunt - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

It was also humorous watching a woman of Nell's intellect worrying about physiological changes that might occur from being hunched over devices for hours a day.

Katherine was an intriguing addition to the NCIS: Los Angeles cast of recurring characters.

Most importantly, she and Sam had good chemistry together.

Sam has kept to himself since Michelle's death on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8 Episode 23.

Might it finally be time for a new relationship for Sam?

Past efforts such as Dana King or Nicole Dechamps pretty much failed, mainly because he wasn't ready.

Haute Couture - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 5

And throwing Sam together with an insurance-agency owner organically regularly would be hard to pull off. They just run in different circles.

Still, there was something there.

Now, I've been counseling patience as far as the sporadic Hetty appearances. What's it been -- two out of five so far?

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

I understand that Hetty's appearances are likely to be the exception rather than the rule. But having Hetty as the ghost in the machine has been frustrating.

How about having her be Charlie and call in to talk to her angels? It's a compromise that wouldn't require Linda Hunt to be on set and we would still get to hear her voice anyway.

Then again, maybe having an absent Hetty is a temporary thing, like with the missing Eric. We can dream, can't we?

With little in the way of leads, it emerged that the painting could be being sold at auction to fund terrorist activity.

Two funny episodes in a row? Is that allowed?

That's debatable, but a fun time was had when the OSP team threw in with two reformed British criminals and a former North Korean spy on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6.

When the Brits are played by well-known scenery chewers Steve Valentine and Vinnie Jones, you know you'll have to listen closely if you're going to keep up.

Aligning With Criminals -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

Like much of British humor, it was all about the dialogue, some of which doesn't translate well into American English.

No wonder Sam and Callen were grousing when Deeks and Fatima got into the act.

Early Takedown - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

I enjoyed that myself. Fatima had a flawless accent, but Deeks, as always when he's in character, exaggerated his accent.

The episode read "caper" right from the very beginning, when Frankie and associates robbed a criminal of his gold bars, then sent those to California in a military coffin for Ricky to pick up.

The vibrant place and name labels only added to the comic-book feel. The episode could have used subtitles so Deeks didn't have to translate. But where's the fun in that?

Of course, those labels tapered off once NCIS got involved, as it was time to get serious.

Not only had Ricky's daughter been kidnapped but there was a stolen experimental weapons system as well.

Seeking a Suspect - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

Ricky got forced out of retirement after his daughter Angela got kidnapped by people unknown, who demanded his help moving the stolen weapons system.

Where the gold bars came into it, I'm not so sure, as it wasn't easy to follow Ricky's Cockney exposition.

But the whole opener made for an enjoyable visual, so just roll with it.

In typical NCIS fashion, their first lead McMillan ended up dead, but at least his GPS helped them track his movements.

McMillan was a gambling addict frequenting an upscale poker game at Super Fat Willie's mansion.

Frankie was a card sharp so he was a natural choice to get in and ferret out who may have been responsible for McMillan's death.

It didn't make sense that after he said the team members couldn't pass as British, he worked up elaborate backstories and looks for each of them. How does that overcome the lack of a passable accent among them?

Fortunately, poker is a game in which hand signals can be used for communications, so they didn't have to talk much.

Especially since all they did was pick off two crooked dealers and then take them into custody. With all the memorable card-related stings through the years on film, that seemed like kind of a waste.

It didn't help that Frankie couldn't resist old habits and started cheating and got caught. So much for the subtle approach.

Making an Entrance - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

And Ricky, as with many of Jones's characters, didn't do subtle, but kicked ass instead.

So, yeah, that undercover operation fell apart in short order. But it did get them where they needed to go, eventually.

It helped that neither of the dealers was terribly bright.

They gave up their DNA after a taste of quality whiskey. Then, when the quickie DNA "results" established their guilt in McMillan's murder, one of them fessed up to helping out North Korean spies under duress.

Now the squad had a reasonable suspect interested in acquiring the weapons system.

That also gave them an excuse for bringing back Jennifer Kim for the first time since NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 Episode 15, even though her father Granger is no longer with us.

It's nice to know such a character can still be utilized either though she no longer has even a tenuous personal connection to the team.

Jennifer willingly came out of hiding to help identify a sketch of the North Korean leader, who was a vicious one.

Fatima quickly found a possible location for the spies and their engineers who were reverse-engineering the weapons system.

Unfortunately, Ricky made up his own plan in a misguided attempt to protect Angela, offering to trade Jennifer for her to the North Koreans.

Playing Footsy - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

Not at all nice to do to someone who was already risking her life to help out. But, as Frankie pointed out, that warning call did endear the North Koreans to Ricky.

After hearing Ricky sweetly talk about Angela, Jennifer agreed to go along with his harebrained plan, even though she knew the North Koreans would try to kill her.

The squad still managed to get set up for the exchange despite arriving late. Naturally, while Ricky and Jennifer both got shot, they were wearing Kevlar.

I was expecting more sniping about Deeks' bar from Frankie and Ricky, but apparently it met their standards.

Since Callen was pushing for Jennifer to get Witness Protection, we won't see her again until North Koreans are the villains of another episode, in probably another season or two.

Ready to Play - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 6

But let's add Frankie and Ricky to the ever-increasing roster of recurring characters. I don't have any idea how they could be worked in again organically but they would be fun.

I enjoyed having Fatima filling in in Ops again. It was amusing how the two Brits thought that she was a supercomputer even after they saw her live on the screen.

But while Eric was supposed to be gone for six episodes, I figured Nell would be running Ops every episode, with Fatima or someone else helping out occasionally until Eric's return. It was disappointing she was gone as well.

And while Hetty's whiskey was also short and potent, I'd really rather have her there instead.
