Did the NCIS manage to derail plans for a mass terror attack in Los Angeles?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 14, the team was forced to partner with the FBI to spearhead an operation when intelligence came to light about an active terror cell in the are.

With no idea where the group was hiding out, some team members had to go undercover, and one of them was put in grave danger.

How did it all play out?

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15 Review: Smokescreen, Part 2

The only episode in a month stood up pretty well.

Fortunately, the action veered away from the stereotypical on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15.

My main complaint with this episode was that Fatima was totally wasted.

Multiple Bombs - Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

Fatima got introduced as a good-guy Muslim on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 14.

She was brought in as a very authoritative source on various jihadist terrorist cells for the OSP.

This episode, in her limited screen time, she served to rubber stamp various theories that team members had. Like I said, underutilized, after such a promising start.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 14 Review: Smokescreen

Her one memorable scene was her confrontation with the hospitalized terrorist, even though motormouth Deeks conducted his true torture.

It could be as simple as it seemed -- she's young and inexperienced and was just overwhelmed by the continuous developments in the case.

Finally Out - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

In a touching scene, Nell explained that it's never as simple as she makes it look, that she struggles with it every day.

Fatima made a point of how much she enjoyed working with the team, so I have to wonder if we have seen the last of her. Lesser characters have recurred, such as that annoying, young, blonde FBI agent whose name I have put out of my head.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 14

Another reason that Fatima was little needed is that the case took a sharp turn partway through, away from her strong suit of Islamic terrorists. She wasn't nearly as well-versed on South African mercenaries.

Things weren't adding up throughout the first half of the episode.

Extremists stole crates of assault weapons, then used explosives at a matinee at a movie theater.

That's no way to rack up a body count. Yeah, seven deaths were terrible, but it could have been so much worse.

Rescue Mission - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

Then there was the "terrorist" in a suicide vest who looked just as scared as those trapped inside with him. He didn't seem much like a zealot seeking his 72 virgins in heaven.

The attempted bombing at the airport made so much more sense, terroristically speaking. Still, the fake baggage handlers failed badly at blending in.

We got to see another example of Sam's bomb-driving skills.

I know he's got a good track record at defusing bombs, but drive first, defuse second should be his standard procedure. I don't blame him for wanting a break from bombs.

And once again Kensi took down a fleeing thug with sheer ferocity, while Deeks trailed behind. One of these days, she's going to bounce off a big guy.

The Next Move - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

That was when Sam started pondering developments thus far, which didn't make sense.

Fatima affirmed that jihadists wouldn't work with South African mercenaries.

So maybe, just maybe, the terrorist angle was all, as the title suggested, a smokescreen.

It was all a very cunning plan to break a South African gunrunner free and having the lead FBI agent on the payroll certainly helped.

I guess we all should have been suspicious when Ross yanked away the mercenary because the FBI has better interrogators.

Obviously, he's never been stuck in a room with Deeks.

Fortunately, with Nell and Eric's oversight and some high-speed tracking, the team was able to foil the escape while gunning everyone down. That was convenient.

What Tools? - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

Having the squad attend the candlelight vigil rather than going drinking at Deeks' bar was an effective change of pace.

I suppose, since the season is two-thirds of the way through, this was a good time to answer the underlying question of whether the OSP should survive despite its freelancing ways.

Under Secretary of the Navy Felice Waterson, yet another Navy brass with attitude came west on a fact-finding tour, and Ochoa offered up the highest praise for the team, saying to leave them alone.

Let's hope that's the end of that.

End of a Long Day - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

We got to find out more about Ochoa, who took on the assignment in the midst of a family crisis.

At least Waterson let him go home to deal with his addicted daughter.

Related: CBS Cheat Sheet: S.W.A.T. is on the Bubble

I didn't get a warm feeling about Hetty's return when Ochoa said the team could continue to function with her, even though her coming back would be best for the team. That certainly displayed no sense of urgency.

I fear that Mosley will have to return at some point, so her situation can get resolved.

Let's hope the powers that be continue with the no-news-is-good-news approach.

Did the team manage to find the terrorist cell?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15, the team continued their mission to find the cell in L.A.

However, it quickly became apparent that there was more to the cell than met the eye, and an old friend could be involved with them.

Meanwhile, Callen and Sam were trapped in a movie theater after multiple bombs were detonated.

So, is the San Diego NCIS office the farm team for the OSP?

That's a question that came to mind while watching NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16.

First, it got established the Fatima was sent to San Diego, with the subtext that it was for some seasoning. But Nell noted that Fatima is from Los Angeles, so maybe she'll be back.

To-Do List -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

I vote yes, once they figure out how best to utilize her. The OSP could use a probie on its own. Everyone else has been around for the better part of a decade now.

Then DeChamps, who also is stationed in San Diego, returned for a third appearance this season, this time subbing for Deeks. More on "Fun with Deeks" later.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15 Review: Smokescreen, Part 2

DeChamps has been a good choice when the powers that be want to shake up the teams a bit. That way, they don't have to break up Eric and Nell in Ops, even though I love the Nellverine in the field.

Welcome Substitute - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

And Anna's not an option anymore, as she's imprisoned. Let's hope that can be resolved sometime in the little bit of season remaining.

Like Kensi, DeChamps is one of the guys and fits right in. Let's face it; there are only two high-maintenance members of this team: Deeks and Eric.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 15

I did like the interaction between Kensi and Nicole. Kensi seemed to like having another female with whom to talk, and she did give DeChamps an effective pep talk before they were rudely interrupted by action.

However, two permanent field teams work well. Too many bodies aren't as good, as was proven in the post-DiNozzo years on NCIS

So I'd prefer DeChamps to recur regularly ... in the office.

Poised and Ready - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

But, as Callen hinted relentlessly throughout this episode, perhaps there's another role for DeChamps, as Sam's new love interest.

I don't see it myself. Sam and Nicole strike me more as drinking buddies who get together regularly to talk about work and life.

But the broad hints from Callen wouldn't be in the script if this wasn't a distinct possibility.

Sam seems content to be a single guy with a pet sea lion, so why float a trial balloon like that if not to get a reaction from viewers?

It's feasible because Sam has already had a wife in law enforcement. So a relationship with DeChamps can't be totally ruled out.

But why force it?

Cracking the Mystery - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

Now on to the case of the week.

A dead reporter seemed a bit afield until it was revealed she was investigating a SNAFU mission in Afghanistan which had a retired and missing Marine at the heart of it.

Related: FBI: Most Wanted Nabs Julian McMahon for Lead Role

Rogers, my least favorite adult supervision, returned to add very little to the episode, although he did manage to use his clearance to cut through red tape.

I did see something in the previews to give me hope that this revolving door of leadership is coming to an end.

There were a couple of worthwhile twists in the case, including the Marine housing a native survivor of that mission gone wrong and a rescued contractor who was running a drug operation using a fake Mexican gang.

Clues From Ops - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

But truly, that wasn't what the episode was all about.

It was mostly about the Densi wedding on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17, which CBS has again bumped off another two weeks. I like Aretha as much as the next guy, but come on!

I understand CBS is trying to make 22 or more episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles last for seven-plus months, but boy do they stretch it out. Between the pre-emptions and the late starts because of sports, it's hard to locate fresh episodes.

That's not as bad as wedging a whole series in between two halves of a season like some shows do.

But how about running through a season of episodes, then giving a launchpad to a promising new series? Continuity isn't a bad thing.

Kneeling Ready - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16

So the two weeks must be needed so Kensi and Deeks can take care of the 13 items on their to-do list.

It's always fun to watch Deeks and Roberta joust, and this was no exception.

I pitied the poor health inspector that got caught in the middle. No wonder the bar passed so that he could get out of there.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Still, while there, he dropped some pearls of wisdom on them, helping them to get the root of the problem: Roberta's insecurity about her dancing.

After seeing how Kensi can dance, you can't really blame her.

It was sweet at the end when Deeks and Roberta got past all the usual noise and told each other how they truly felt.

Now, based on the preview, I think Hetty will be back for the wedding.

A small car crashed through a wall; then a tiny foot stepped out of it. That's got to be Hetty, right? They couldn't have the wedding without her, could they?

To catch up during another hiatus, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online

Who murdered a popular journalist?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16, things took a wild turn when it emerged the man was writing an exposé on a mishandled classified military operation.

With everyone asking questions about what really happened, the team had to turn to competitors who wanted to write the story.

Elsewhere, Kensi and Deeks geared up for their wedding.

Multiple Bombs - Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 15

Well, that was worth the nearly 10 seasons of waiting.

Capping what had to be one of the slowest burns ever, Kensi and Deeks finally got married on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17.

Yup, after more than four seasons as a couple and a two-year engagement, the couple has tied the knot!

Wedding Day -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

Hell, Deeks even found a second career faster.

But, as Kirkin, and Shakespeare before him, pointed out, the course of true love never did run smooth.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 16 Review: Into the Breach

That sums up Kensi and Deeks' relationship perfectly.

That was certainly the case on Kensi and Deeks' wedding day. And did anyone expect it to be any other way?

Here Comes the Groom - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

Of course, there were pre-wedding jitters.

I expected those from Deeks. I loved how Otis's bark warned Sam about an intruder, who not surprisingly was Deeks running on hyperactive energy.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 16

Apparently, it had finally dawned on Deeks that he wasn't worthy of Kensi, which hasn't exactly been a secret.

Sam and Callen bolstered him by agreeing with that statement but bowed to Kensi's decision to marry Deeks anyway.

Then, as if Deeks didn't need further distractions, Kirkin showed up to convince "his" Marty to run away with him. Naturally. Kirkin is well-meaning but delusional.

So, that distraction seemingly averted, Deeks remembered "The Box."

You recall the box which Kensi gave Deeks years ago to be opened on the day of their wedding.

The box which he had lost all track of and now was looking for feverishly?

The Happy Couple - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

Thank God for Nell. Kensi had had the foresight to make arrangements with Nell so that Deeks would end up in the right place at the right time, where he would never have gotten if left to his own devices.

Kensi giving Deeks her treasured possession, her father's wedding ring, and her explanatory letter were touching, even if it did, once again, send Deeks spiraling in self-doubt.

Surprisingly, Kensi was having her moment as well. But hers was more getting away from her smothering mother and friends.

It was heartwarming when she and Roberta had a heart-to-heart talk before all the action started.

This being NCIS: Los Angeles, "action" doesn't mean the wedding ceremony and the reception.

It means Russian mobsters injecting themselves into the entire event.

Sharp-Dressed Men - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

I think Kirkin was determined to give Marty every chance to remember the good times they had had together so that he would call the whole thing off.

Like I said, delusional.

Kirkin arranged a fake kidnapping by "Pliers" Baroni, a mobster/actor.

Only in Los Angeles. You don't get those kinds of hyphenates on NCIS: New Orleans, do you?

There it's Special Agent in Charge/bar owner.

Kirkin's grand plan was to see who wanted to fill the power vacuum in his organization after he got kidnapped, so he knew who he needed to terminate.

That seemed like a solid plan until he turned up at the wedding.

Great Friends Celebrate Together - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

Since his infatuation with Deeks was well known, those planning a coup showed up there also.

And then the fun began.

My favorite moments were watching the Nellverine in action. First, she grabbed Kirkin's face so that he could understand why he needed to disappear.

Then she knocked out two thugs with a fire extinguisher, twice the number that either Sam or Callen handled.

That's why I want her in the field more often.

She brings a certain ferocity to the action.

Cute Couple - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

Eric showed that he's not quite ready for fieldwork.

After telling Rogers that he wanted to become a special agent, Eric got knocked out after admittedly disarming one thug.

Then Kensi took out another for him.

And frankly, his welcoming the support crew from San Diego to Ops wasn't his finest hour. He didn't want to share his toys.

Related: 13 Stuttering Shows That Made a Comeback

Deeks did his best to keep the whole Kirkin debacle away from Kensi.

But when Kirkin walked into Kensi's suite, admiring her dress before jumping out the window, that was no longer possible.

Another amusing moment was Kensi and her bridal party attacking the thugs who invaded her suite after Kirkin.

Granted, other than Kensi's sleeper hold, they weren't very effective. But it was a hilarious visual.

Here Comes the Bride - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17

It was great to finally meet Kensi's friends who had been mentioned so often in the past.

I still couldn't tell you who was who. Who was pregnant, for example?

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Kensi's remodeling her wedding dress was just so Kensi. Function over form, all the way.

But the highlight had to be Hetty's return, as she ran down the last thug with a borrowed car. Then she turned around and officiated. What a dual threat!

And of course Hetty wouldn't admit where she'd been, to keep her team ignorant and safe. Maybe we'll find out in the future, but probably not.

The next question is whether Hetty is back for good.

Since Rogers was featured in the trailer for next episode, I'm guessing not.

But there had better be some kind of explanation upcoming.

This revolving leadership has gotten old fast.

It beats having Mosley there, but it needs to be over.

To revisit the Kensi/Deeks relationship, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.

How did you enjoy the wedding, and was it worth the wait?

What were your favorite parts?

Were you glad to have Hetty back, even if it's short-term?

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18 Review: Born to Run

$

After the big wedding episode on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17, it was back to what the OSP does best.

What that means is a relatively easily solved case, replete with a goofy guest star, on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18.

That guest star was Nell's bossy older sister Sydney, who kidnapped Nell to assure her help with the trouble into which her high-school crush Andre had gotten.

Sisterly Help - NCIS: Los Angeles

I'm still not sold on Sydney.  I'm in favor of anything that brings Nell to the forefront of an episode.

Also, I realize that Nell has issues to work out with Sydney, but her value as a recurring character took a nosedive.

A Sister in Need - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

I got that Andre, a Navy engineer, was in over his head after being set up by Kang and getting attacked. So he naturally approached someone he knew in the intelligence branch of government -- Sydney.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17 Review: Till Death Do Us Part

What I didn't understand is why Sydney instantly reverted to a schoolgirl instead of helping Andre herself.

She's a specialist for Homeland Security, so yes, she had assets of her own she could access, right?

It makes no sense for her to shanghai Nell since Andre was afraid someone connected to a Navy project was after him, and Nell works at the NAVY Criminal Investigative Service.

Seeking Direction - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

But with Sydney being useless, she, and by extension Andre, became Nell's burdens to bear.

Rather than merely explaining to Nell what was going on so Nell could formulate a plan, Sydney destroyed both their cell phones, eliminating Nell's most obvious form of communication.

So that slowed Nell from reaching out to her team, who she knew she could trust. Much of what happened to the Jones sisters and Andre could have gotten avoided if Sydney had talked first rather than acted.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 17

I was disappointed that the Nellverine couldn't come out to play again and wondered why she didn't have her firearm in her car.

I guess being in Ops, she only picks out a weapon when she's going out into the field. And since Sydney gave her no warning what was up.

At least the analytical Nell was present. I loved the shoutout to M*A*S*H with the "Suicide is Painless" reference painted on Hayley's car.

Lost in Ops - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

Still, the way Eric was acting, I'm surprised he picked up on it. He was knocked off his game by Nell's absence, then reappearance with the suspect they were hunting.

Fortunately, Nell being with Andre gave the squad pause, as they trusted her judgment even though she hadn't checked in with them. And once they rethought what they knew about the case, things didn't add up.

Everything was just too convenient: Andre's keycard being used twice, the deposit into his account, his being missing.

Related: 13 Stuttering Shows That Made a Comeback

And since Kang was the person spoonfeeding Andre to them, Sam and Callen were right to switch to her as a suspect.

But couldn't Kang have waited until the heat died down a little to deliver the hard drive to her Russian contact, instead of leading Callen and Sam right to her? Or at least come up with a more plausible excuse than going for a walk?

Then Kang and Natasha led Sam and Callen right near the site where Nell, Sydney, and Andre were hiding out? I'd say that was pretty damn convenient.

Hitting the Trail - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

That's not to downplay Kensi's genius idea of chasing the Russians on motorcycles on horseback.

The funny part was having the horse owner argue when Kensi first tried to commandeer it. That somewhat explodes one of the biggest cop-show cliches.

It was also enlightening that Sam and Callen were faster on foot than a motorcyclist. I guess you have to know the shortcuts.

Now let's talk about the tiny elephants in the room.

I guess we're just going to have to accept the loss of Hetty, at least for this season.

I have to believe Linda Hunt's car accident was worse than initially publicized because I think she would be there if she physically could.

That being said, Rogers, the least likable of the three fill-in leaders, is who we're stuck with for the rest of the season? Seriously?

Dragged Into Helping - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

Team members grudgingly accepted Kilbride and Ochoa, but have treated Rogers like the joke he is, so far. And that almost cost them.

Granted, he's done little to earn their respect.

But if he's there, he's got to be kept in the loop, so that mixups such as telling the prime suspect where her target is hiding don't happen.

Could Rogers be helpful? While certainly not at Hetty's level, he does have connections that could get exploited.

But how can he assist them if he doesn't know what's going on?

Working around their leader is what got them in trouble during Mosley's reign of terror, so haven't they learned anything?

Not Much Help - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18

The whole performance review idea, which everyone laughed at, was a comedic opportunity lost.

Whether tongue in cheek or not, Deeks was starting to open up to Rogers when his visit got cut short.

And none of the others were shown, although Kensi got briefly called in. Instead, team members kept making up excuses to get out of it.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Although no one bullshits like Deeks, it would be fun to see what Rogers could pull out of the others.

But I don't expect to happen.

Rogers was officially welcomed to the OSP at the bar, so let's see how that relationship develops over the tiny bit of the season that remains.

To evaluate Rogers' performance, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.

Did Sydney add anything to this episode?

Was solving the case a little too easy?

Since they have no choice, should the team accept Rogers?

Well, this is quite the surprise, JAG and NCIS: Los Angeles Fanatics!

David James Elliott, who starred on the hit CBS drama series, JAG, has signed up to appear in some upcoming episodes of NCIS: Angeles, according to Deadline

What's more, David will be reprising the role of Navy Captain Harmon Rabb Jr. It's a big surprise, for sure, but a good one!

His first episode is slated to premiere May 12, and it is titled "The Guardian."

JAG was a roaring success, running for ten seasons from 1995-2005. The original NCIS is an offshoot of that series. While there are three NCIS series on the air, this will be the first time viewers will be seeing Harmon since JAG.

jaggy 1

R. Scott Gemmill, who is an executive producer and showrunner on NCIS: Los Angeles also worked on JAG.

“I was really excited to get a chance to work with David again,” Gemmill said.

“I did the first 4 seasons of JAG with him so to be able to work together again in and of itself is great–but to do so with the same character…on our show…this many years later—that’s pretty damn amazing. Bringing Harmon Rabb to work with NCIS: Los Angeles makes for a formidable coalition, and both entities are going to need all the help they can get when confronted with the greatest challenge of their careers.”

In Elliott’s first episode with the series, the NCIS team uncovers a group ISIS sympathizers planning an attack on U.S. aircraft carriers.

Callen and Sam will work directly with Rabb, who is now the XO Captain on the USS Intrepid.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19 Review: Searching

$

Well, that was a whole lot of treading water.

There was much foreshadowing, along with the necessary amount of action and gunfire, on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19.

Yup, we're still coming down off the high that was Kensi and Deeks' wedding on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17.

Kensi and CID Agent Steve Evans - NCIS: Los Angeles

Maybe that should have been the season finale. It's been a hard act to follow.

The bad news here was that Hetty's appearance at the wedding now smacks on being a cameo for the season.

On the plus side, no Rogers this week.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18 Review: Born to Run

Instead, it was mostly everyone doing their own thing, with only a slight bit leading anywhere.

If you tuned in to see the team in action together, you needed to watch quickly, as squad members went their separate ways shortly after the opening credits.

We barely got introduced to Steve Evans, that poor, worked-over CID agent who got partnered with Kensi on that undercover op.

Welcome Reunion - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19

It's a good thing that the storyline was so simple that it was easy for viewers to catch up as it was gunfire, some more gunfire, then some brief exposition about what was on the recovered hard drive.

Thanks for playing, Steve.

Where to start? How about with Callen?

Callen has been estranged from his sister Alex ever since his father was sent away in a prisoner exchange on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 Episode 16

Alex has unfairly blamed Callen for that travesty because, well, he couldn't stop machinations high up in U.S. intelligence.

At the time, the OSP was still plagued by Mosley's leadership, so Callen got no support there, and Hetty, then recently back from her captivity in Vietnam, really was in no position to pull a rabbit out of her hat yet again.

Child at the Bar - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19

Oh, well. Callen wouldn't be Callen if some unnecessary drama didn't get dumped on him. He couldn't just lose his father; he had to lose the rest of his family as well.

Callen needed a little happiness in his life, I mean beyond that sweet unfurnished apartment above Deeks' bar.

So that fortuitous gunshot wound gave Callen the perfect opportunity to beg off and watch his nephew Jake when all of Alex's regular sitters were unavailable.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 18

It was amusing to see how inept dedicated bachelor Callen was around children, resorting to blackjack and pool to amuse Jake. I suppose when you had no childhood, it doesn't give you a frame of reference.

Fortunately, Jake was the most technologically skilled person in the bar and was able to save Kensi's fundraiser. That's frightening, too.

There was a crack in Alex's armor after this outing, despite finding Jake playing pool at a bar. And really, how many times will Jake have to ask "Can Callen come over to play Fortnite?" before she caves?

Next, Callen has to figure out how to get Anna out of prison. That has to happen this season, right? Or are TPTB content to have Anna out of sight, out of mind?

Together Again - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19

Where to next? San Francisco?

That's where Eric went on his job interview with the tech company that was recruiting him.

The wrinkle was that Nell's mother was desperately sick so much so that her parents were moving to San Francisco where she could get specialized treatment. Because similar East/West medical treatment would be hard to find in La La Land.

Yeah, that very convenient development came out of the blue.

Is there some way that Eric could go and Nell could return, instantly improving the show? Deeks is still there for comic relief so that Eric wouldn't be a significant loss.

Couldn't Nell's incompetent older sister Sydney step up and help out their parents? She must be at loose ends since Homeland Security must have canned her after her schoolgirl exploits on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 18.

It's probably a red herring, but computer whiz kid Fatima has been around a lot recently. So maybe something is in the works with Eric and/or Nell.

Infiltration Attempt - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19

Speaking on Fatima, she's still learning. And who better to learn from than Sam and Lance?

Fatima got to tag along to help out what Eric and Nell usually do when Sam and Lance hunted for a rogue Border Patrol agent that a cartel made the mistake of attacking.

It took both Sam and Lance to keep Fatima safe, as her confidence outweighs her abilities, so far. That's not to say she can't get there, but she requires guidance.

Related: 13 Stuttering Shows That Made a Comeback

Was it a little soon for Lance, introduced on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 7, to be back already?

I don't think so. He and Sam are kindred souls. They're both ex-military and had lost their wives. They work together well.

And once again we got to hear that Sam isn't ready to leave with Lance, at least not yet.

On the Road Again - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19

The unhinged agent, taking his daughter along as he slays cartel thugs and chases his wife's abductor, was an interesting touch. He shouldn't have ended up in cuffs, but he did produce quite a body count, so it's up to a smart lawyer to get him off on extenuating circumstances.

Finally, there was Deeks and Kensi trapped in the bar from hell.

I liked the idea of the bar, which gave the squad a place to gather at case's end.

But Deeks and Kensi never seem to be on the same page. Deeks decided to modernize on the same day that Kensi was planning an environmental fundraiser.

These two talked about their wedding plans seemingly for years. Can't they talk about the bar instead now?

Kensi made a good point. How can a couple that has defied death all these years get so stressed out from running a bar?

It seemed they figured out that they need to hire experts. I say turn over running the bar to Roberta and be silent partners.

All these potential character changes make me wonder if maybe there's a cancellation coming. I mean, CSI ended without much warning.

To tide yourself over next Sunday, when the ACM Awards intrude on the CBS schedule, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.

Is anybody going anywhere?

Should Alex lighten the hell up?

Should Deeks and Kensi unload the bar?

Did DoJ Agent Lance Hamilton realize he was in too deep?

On NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19, Lance asked Sam for assistance in locating a former U.S. border patrol tactical officer who disappeared following a threat from the cartel.

However, the pair found themselves playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with the aim of keeping themselves safe from a rising threat.

Meanwhile, Kensi and Steve Evans joined forces on a dangerous mission to recover a stolen hard drive with sensitive military intelligence on it.

Was there a case?

What truly mattered is that Hetty was back on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20.

I've missed Hetty the All-Knowing. Nothing ever got by her.

Navy SEAL Brotherhood -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20

So what if she had only been seen this season officiating Kensi and Deeks' wedding on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17?

She was obviously as plugged into what's going on around the OSP office as she ever was.

She knew more than Kilbride or Ochoa or especially Rogers ever will.

The first thing she asked Nell was about her ailing mother, which enabled Nell to sound off about all the worries that she'd been carrying around since she found out about her mother's heart condition.

But Hetty knew that Nell needed more help than just being able to decompress. That's why she had already booked a flight for the two of them to San Francisco so that she could try to persuade Nell's mother to get the surgery she needs.

I wouldn't bet against her.

She's Back - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20

Hetty also tried to bring Eric back to a more even keel.

Under the substitute leaders, Eric has gotten more and more high-strung and anxious, if that's possible. Hetty has always boosted him up and kept him on task. If she's back, maybe he'll be, well, less annoying.

Of course, Hetty already knew about Eric's job offer. The question will be whether she has a counter-proposal (making him the field agent he's always wanted to be) or will encourage him to go.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 19

I fear that Hetty may now be disappearing again for a time, as Rogers shows up in the credits for the next two episodes. And there's just no good reason to have him there other than to be an inadequate fill-in for Hetty.

So let's be glad for whatever time Linda Hunt is available. Remember, every scene with Hetty is one less for Rogers. Addition by subtraction.

There's another mystery to be solved as well: Why is Fatima still hanging around Los Angeles?

Helping Out in Ops - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20

It could be as simple as her being an apprentice, with her learning from two of the best.

It also might be that she's just helping out as personal developments take Eric or Nell to San Francisco.

It's certain that she isn't ready for fieldwork. Two gangsters got the drop on her on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19. This episode, you could see the fear in her eyes as the taco truck was targeted with bullets.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 19 Review: Searching

Still, she was perfect for goading and distracting the white nationalist with her unexpected phone call.

Finally, it might be that Eric or Nell might be departing, either for an extended arc or forever. It's so late in the season that it would be hard to set up anything other than an exit.

I'm beginning to rethink the possibility of NCIS: Los Angeles getting canceled.

His Partner's Keeper - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20

First, why bother setting up a new character if there's no future in sight?

Second, wouldn't there be a string of blasts from the past if this were it? Granted, there have been quite a few recurring characters, but no more than any other season.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Finally, if there were only four to six episodes left in the series, wouldn't there be a little bit of Hetty sitting around dispensing wisdom in each one?

Still, up until the time when CBS renews, there is no certainty. But CBS has too much stock in the NCIS franchise to surprise any showrunners with a cancellation.

Now, onto the case of the week itself.

It was a simple concept: Sam's pissed and loaded for bear.

After his fellow SEAL got shot, Sam was all business. He didn't even have any patience for Callen's steams of consciousness, which these days are going even further afield than Deeks' are, which is saying something.

Callen spent the episode saving Sam from himself, such as when Sam's pounding on a suspect's door produced a hail of gunfire. Whatever happened to recon?

Unexpected Resistance - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20

Frankly, with Callen having to handle Sam, that left Kensi in charge of the investigation. And she did a great job of it, finding evidence that helped to move things along, such as the bullet casing and the burner phone.

If only she hadn't had to beat on Deeks so much. He does try to be supportive in his wisecracking way.

It was evident way too early that the driver Reed was in on the robbery. That the money was stolen essentially to fund a white-nationalist war chest came out of the blue.

Seeking Retribution - NCIS: Los Angeles

None of the white nationalists that were captured or killed seemed like truly bright bulbs, so obviously there's a broader conspiracy that will linger. Whether or not it will get wrapped this season or later remains hard to say.

SPOILER: Another another hiatus (CBS is mining the Grammys for another special), it will finally be time to deal with Anna and her imprisonment over the next couple of episodes. Since she's outlived her usefulness, I suspect she'll either disappear (that happens a lot to Callen) or be killed off.

The other prominent thread left hanging is what happens to Mosley. But does anybody honestly care if that character fades away with no real resolution? I'm doubtful.

To fill in any gaps in your season, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.

Were you happy to see Hetty again?

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21 Review: The One That Got Away

It was about time we got back to one of the season's most headscratching storylines.

No, it wasn't what happened to Hetty, or did the earth just swallow up Mosley whole? Not that there would have been anything wrong with that.

It was the odd behavior of Anna Kolchek over the past couple of seasons that was finally explained (somewhat) on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21.

Anna Kolchek Escapes -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

Anna's always been a love-or-hate character. Many thought that Callen frankly deserves better.

I thought that Callen was too attached to the job ever to have time for a personal life, kind of like McGarrett on Hawaii FIve-0 or Reid on Criminal Minds.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 20 Review: Choke Point

So Anna was just Miss Right Now and they both seemed cool with that.

Then, out of the blue, Anna shot an unarmed Sokolov while working for the ATF on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 Episode 18.

First off, good riddance.

Escaped Fugitives - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

But law enforcement frowns on shooting unarmed criminals, even if they are deserving.

And Callen's testimony on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 Episode 22 helped to convict Anna as well as putting their already shaky relationship in the dumper.

Anna got sentenced to seven years in prison (possibility of probation after three) on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 7, and then got moved to state prison then hospitalized after a fight on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 11.

Yeah, this string of events seemed hinky to Callen and any viewers that cared about Anna. This episode we found out it was all a long con on Anna's part.

It just took most of a season for everything to add up. I love it when a plan comes together, to steal from Hannibal on A-Team.

The Big House - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

Of course she had to keep Callen in the dark. He's such a Boy Scout that he would ruin her plan.

He'll forgive her if she actually manages to find and rescue Callen's father.

It's times like this that having Hetty and her world of connection would  be so beneficial.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 20

I have to say that I hadn't given Anna enough credit in the past. I always thought that she was just looking for a place to belong.

I guess growing up as Arkady's daughter helped her to earn her master's in deviousness.

Worried Father - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

Obviously Anna is getting help from somebody well-placed and well-hidden in the Department of Justice. For what reason isn't at all clear yet.

So sometime after she got in trouble for the Sokolov shooting, this DoJ spook made her a deal so that she could get in tight with Kate, aka Katya.

Related: CBS Announces Fate of NCIS: Los Angeles

Anna developed a well-thought-out escape plan for herself and her new BFF right under the nose of the clueless warden, in the hopes that Kate would take her back to Russia.

That plan worked only too well, to the point where Kate was willing to kill her own handler to save Anna.

Next Anna hopes to exploit Kate's relationship with security chief Volkoff.

Questionable Manuever - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

Sounds good on paper. I suspect the execution of her plan won't be that simple.

This was a tough episode for Callen. He's blamed himself for Anna being in prison thanks to his testimony.

He shouldn't since the shooting was solely her bad decision. She let her temper get the best of her.

Callen had had a hunch right along that Anna was still on some assignment, maybe undercover. But if not for the ATF, then for who?

He also remembered Joelle (Sam wouldn't let him forget), so he had doubts and had to question whether Anna had been playing him as well, and if she might have gone back to the dark side.

Fugitive Hunt - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

Callen took the shot(s) to hinder Anna's fleeing the country. But Kate was a high-value target, as Volkoff sent in a team, on American soil, to aid in her escape.

Ultimately, his trust in Anna led Callen to let fly away, with no clear idea what she was doing. It was only later that he learned she was doing all this for him.

The best part of any Anna appearance is that Arkady is rarely far behind.

The Marshals couldn't wait to clear Arkady as a suspect and to get him out from underfoot.

Then he crashed into the OSP end of the investigation, but actually helped to crack the case, revealing Carmona's connections to Russian oligarchs and Kate's true intentions.

Firefight Aftermath - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

It was sweet how he described Anna, as it appeared that she was heading for a fiery end.

He and Rogers also became a winning odd couple, with Rogers actually driving a drunk (is there any other kind) Arkady home.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

Although I'm still hoping against hope for Hetty's return to regular status, Rogers is growing on me.

He has largely come around to the team's way of doing things, although he still makes a big show of being in charge.

Running Interference - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21

There are availability reasons why we aren't seeing Hetty or Ochoa or Kilbride, so I guess we need to make the best of a middling situation.

SPOILER: The search for Anna promises to continue next episode. Then it's two weeks of essentially a JAG reunion that serves as a backdoor pilot for a possible reboot to wrap up the season.

Yes, it's been a meandering season, with the Hetty, Neric, and bar storylines still unresolved. But at least we finally got the Densi wedding on NCIS Season 10 Episode 17.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22 Review: No More Secrets

$

That was a pretty impressive job of tying up loose ends.

A bunch of storylines came together well on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22.

In short, Anna was found, Joelle returned and Nikita was rescued and brought home to his family.

An Unsanctioned Mission -- Tall - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

All that, and Hetty scenes too.

That's a major plus, considering how most episodes have meandered since the Densi wedding on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 17.

Unfamiliar Turf - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

It's nice to have a handful of conclusions, even if most couldn't be seen as definitive.

Best of all, some burdens finally got taken off of Callen's shoulders.

Foremost on Callen's mind was Anna, who broke out of jail with her cellmate, undercover Russian spy Kate Miller, on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21. She was last seen flying away after Callen let her go.

Related: NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 21 Review: The One That Got Away

Without telling Callen, Anna had decided to infiltrate the organization of Russian spymaster Pavel Volkoff, in hopes to finding out where Callen's father Nikita was being held.

Of course, Hetty knew about Anna's plans. Even though we've barely seen her this season, she's an intermediary in so many secret missions, and this one was no different..

And since she could no longer keep Callen in the dark, she dribbled a little information his way, pointing him in the right direction.

Freeway of Love - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

That would be toward Joelle, last seen walking away from her family on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 3..

She even used the Popeye defense on Callen when explaining that decision: "I yam what I yam."

Joelle was surprisingly Anna's handler in this CIA black op. Imagine the Callen stories those two could tell.

Since she had little manpower support from the CIA, Joelle gladly accepted the OSP help once Hetty had outed her. Especially since the sketchy messages from Anna indicated she was in trouble.

Shouldn't the team have considered that that tiny plane wasn't going to get Anna and Kate to Russia?

No, they would have to land somewhere closer where Russia still held sway, like, say, Cuba.

Out From the Shadows - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

And once Nikita showed up in surveillance, there was no holding Callen back. There was no sense pondering why Nikita was in Cuba, serving as bait in what was likely a trap.

Did they learn nothing from last season's Mexican fiasco?

My favorite part of the establishing scenes in Havana was the big-ass American land yachts. Too bad the writers couldn't find an excuse for a chase scene featuring those beauties.

Related: Watch NCIS: Los Angeles Online: Season 10 Episode 21

Deeks just doesn't get the concept of inconspicuous, does he? Maybe he was right that such a vehicle would blend right in.

It was good to see Oscar Nunez (The Office) again. He made the most out of the stereotypical morally ambivalent snitch role.

He led the team to Volkoff's lair and stumbled on the vent quite by accident. He even had his own guard by splashing around some of that CIA cash.

Caught in the Wrong Place - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

Watching Volkoff, you had to wonder how he got to be the Russian spymaster. He thought he had the upper hand forcing Nikita to interrogate Reznikov, but the two of them conspired against him with some sign language they both knew and ultimately escaped.

When you come down to it, Volkoff's bunker was hardly impregnable. Lionel knew where it was and Sam, Deeks and Kensi broke in through the vents. Callen, Anna, Joelle, Nikita and Reznikov all escaped and managed to arm themselves.

It's so hard to get good security nowadays.

For all his scheming, very little went right for Volkoff. Despite having markedly superior firepower, he found himself running willy nilly quite a bit.

It was great when they left him behind. Isn't the trope to take such a character as an asset, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of the heroes?

Volkoff also ended up the only name character dead from his fiendish fail-safe, the chlorine gas.

For someone who has been a pain in the team's side for a number of seasons, he went out with a whimper.

Leaning on a Source - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

Was that episode all a little predictable: Callen and Joelle getting swooped up by Volkoff's goons? Anna and Joelle being shot, but not really? A wounded Nikita putting the final bullets into Volkoff?

On the home front, was anyone shocked that Rogers found out what was happening despite Nell and Eric's horrible attempts at covering up what the team was doing?

At least he took steps to arrange for a rescue chopper. He's learning why the squad does what they do the way they do it. He's gotten acclimated.

Related: CBS Announces Fate of NCIS: Los Angeles

Still, it was encouraging to see Hetty the most of any episode this season. Here's hoping for a full-time return next season, rather than having her wander in and out such as Ducky does on NCIS.

Nell and Eric were still going back and forth on whether they're going or staying. I'd love to see her stay and him go, but there's no chance of that happening, I'm afraid.

Someone was going to end up dead on this episode. My money was on Anna, since her character no longer serves much purpose.

Providing Intelligence - NCIS: Los Angeles Season 10 Episode 22

But no, she just opted for exile, since she's a fugitive. So she'll pop up an episode or two next season.

Just like Joelle. That must be part of the Callen breakup package, to show up often enough to remind fans why they didn't like that character.

Nope, instead it was Nikita who died, after finally getting home to his family one last time, before being laid to rest next to his daughter.

Related: Get CBS All Access via Amazon Channels for Hit Shows, Exclusive Originals & Live TV!

His death wasn't surprising, as he'd lived a long, very hard life. The body can only take so much abuse.

Was Nikita really Callen's father? Maybe, maybe not. But he certainly filled that role in recent years, to allow Callen to stop wondering.

Now he's back in the good graces of Alex and Grace, Callen has a family to visit once again.

SPOILERS: Two more episodes this season, mostly focusing on JAG characters. Let's see if that can happen organically or if it resembles stunt casting.

To catch up before the finale arc, watch NCIS: Los Angeles online.
